Common Core Writing Plans

While my student teacher has been taking the class this last while I've been working on some big projects that have been buzzing around my head. The Common Core expects some things from students that I have not emphasized much in the past. Different genres of writing is one of them. This next year I want to structure writing so that during each 9 week on-track period I do 3 weeks of persuasive writing, 3 weeks of informational writing, and 3 weeks of narrative writing. I figure if I do that then my students will be much better prepared for the DWA-Direct Writing Assessment in February and I'll have a chance to help them progress more steadily throughout the year.
